We have lost our beloved bunny. His hindquarters became paralyzed and was no longer able to walk or get up on is hinds. He couldn't wash himself and his skin around his backside became scalded and burned. While he was still able to clean himself, he licked himself of all his fur and we had to give him baths to keep the skin from burning. It was several times a day then he couldn't move at all. It is quite common in older bunnies but we didn't know it until I went online and researched it.

We had him one day short of 7 years. Our anniversary is February 14th and he was an anniversary gift. He was put down on February 13th. He is so sadly missed and will always leave a big whole in our lives. We will find another bunny but not for awhile yet.

Rusty is almost 7 years old now. It's hard to believe that so much time has gone by. We were worried about him until he lived longer than the other too bunnies. Then we started to get more comfortable about him but still concerned. Rabbits are high maintenance. They have to be watched for mischief and since they are so curious to have to be careful with what you leave around. I always watch for exposed electrical cords. It's so easy to move something and not be aware of leaving a small section sticking out and it only takes a second for Mr. Curiosity to find it.

Our biggest problem with Rusty is the fact that I am in a wheelchair now. It's a power chair and not too forgiving of a silly little bunny that likes to push his way through and not wait until I've passed by. I have to constantly look all the way around me before I move. He did get into trouble one day and got kind of squeezed but he still doesn't move out of the way. I am the one that has to watch out for my little fur britches. He's getting old and it shows, he just isn't as spry and as fast but he still tries to *binky once in awhile. If frightened, he still has the ability to run with speed to safety.

* Binky is the term used by rabbit enthusiasts to describe the way rabbits  jump up, whirl in the air then run with speed for some way and either stop or do it again.
